More Than a Headline​

For years, my story was told by newspaper headlines, court records, and internet searches.

Like many criminal cases, those headlines captured a moment in time, but they never captured the whole story.

They didn't tell you who I was before prison.

They couldn't tell you who I would become after it.

I accepted responsibility for my actions and was sentenced to 42 months in the Florida Department of Corrections. With gain time earned through good behavior, I served just over three years in prison. During that time, I was never disciplined or written up. Instead, I chose to grow.

I served as a teacher's aide, worked with Canine Companions, educated other incarcerated women, and made a commitment that if I ever had the opportunity to rebuild my life, I would dedicate it to helping others navigate the correctional system more prepared than I had been.

Prison changed me.

Not because it defined me.

Because it revealed my purpose.

Life After Prison

One of the hardest realities of becoming a convicted felon isn't always serving the sentence.

It's serving the sentence long after it's over.

Today, anyone can type a name into Google and, within seconds, form an opinion about another human being based on a few headlines written years ago. Those headlines rarely tell the complete story. They don't capture accountability, growth, healing, or the work required to rebuild a life. They reduce complex human experiences to a few paragraphs, and for many people, that becomes the only version of them the world ever knows.

I understand that reality because I've lived it.

I could have spent my life trying to outrun my past.

Instead, I chose to transform it into my life's work.​​

Why Prison101 Exists

Over the past decade, I have worked with individuals, families, attorneys, and organizations across the United States, helping them prepare for incarceration, navigate prison systems, understand classification, request transfers, plan for reentry, and make informed decisions during one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Prison101 Consulting was born from one simple belief:

No one should have to navigate incarceration alone.

Every guide I write, every consultation I provide, and every family I help is rooted in that mission.

Because while incarceration may become part of someone's story, it should never be the end of it.

The correctional system introduced me to some of the darkest moments of my life.

It also introduced me to my life's purpose.
